You can reduce Windows 11’s RAM usage by avoiding its new features – GetintoPC

Windows 11 RAM Usage

Certain features and settings are enabled in Windows 11 by default and you may want to disable them to improve the speed of the operating system. If you have an unsupported device or older hardware with a low amount of RAM, you should immediately limit or disable the Microsoft Teams icon that is pinned to the new OS’s taskbar.

As you probably know, Microsoft Teams has a more prominent role than expected in the latest version of Windows. The Teams app has been integrated into the taskbar, allowing users with personal accounts to start chats or video conferences and invite their friends to the platform.

In addition to Teams, the Windows 11 taskbar also comes with another new addition called “Dashboard Widgets.” These two new buttons are pinned to the taskbar along with all the usual options like the Start menu and Task View. As you can see in the screenshot below, the Widgets dashboard allows you to view and manage news, widgets, and more.

Windows 11 widgets are slow

According to former Microsoft employee Michael Niehaus, it might be a good idea to disable these icons if you prefer performance over fancy features.

This is because Microsoft Teams Chat and Widgets start the Microsoft Edge WebView2 processes in the background. WebView2 is part of Microsoft Edge and is required for web-based apps like Teams or Widgets in Windows 11. Unfortunately, these processes are resource-intensive in some cases.

The Windows 11 Widget function spawns WebView 2 processes only when you click its button and browse the feed. On the other hand, the Teams chat icon on the Windows 11 taskbar, which is the entry point for Microsoft Teams 2.0, could use up system resources without doing anything.

When the icon is pinned to the taskbar, it triggers web-related activities in the background during the login process. In apps like Process Explorer, you’ll immediately notice up to nine processes linked to the Teams client.

IT admin Niehaus noted that removing the Teams icon will disable these WebView2 processes on startup.

Disabling this may not make an immediate difference to your day-to-day experience, but as you launch more apps or web apps, limiting the number of concurrent WebView 2 processes running in the background might come in handy.

To increase the performance of your operating system, simply right-click on the Widgets dashboard and the Teams icon and turn them off.

A word of warning, there may be other bugs and features that affect the performance of our Windows 11 device, so it may be a good idea to install the latest Windows 11 optional update, especially if your storage drive is slower than expected. habitual.

As we reported earlier, Microsoft has developed a suitable fix for the slow typing speed of Windows 11 and the fix is currently included in the optional update. If you don’t want to install optional updates, you can also wait for the February 2022 Patch Tuesday release.
