Windows 10 update will soon enable cloud reinstalls

Users who wish to reinstall Windows 10 will soon be able to do so simply by connecting online, Microsoft has revealed

The latest version of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build includes a new option when resetting your PC that will be linked to a cloud download Windows

Until now, anyone who would like to reinstall Windows would have needed to use an external copy of the software, or choose to use a local copy, which is often already stored on a PC and therefore runs the risk of corruption or Other failures [19659004] Reset

The new option is included as part of the "Reset this PC" menu in the Recovery section of Windows Settings, and will reinstall the same Windows build, version, and edition that was installed on the device. Previously, Resetting this PC used local files to build a new Windows installation from existing files.

This new cloud download option is available for all Windows 10 devices and is different from the "Recover from the cloud" function available on some previous Windows 10 devices. Microsoft says the new addition was inspired by users who said they would prefer to use their high-speed Internet connection to speed up the reinstallation process simply by downloading Windows.

The company adds that doing so will eliminate any application installed on the device, and that if the "Delete all" option is selected, user data will also be deleted.

Microsoft will expect the new version to help foster greater acceptance of the latest versions of Windows 10.

Recent company figures show that its Windows update May 10, 2019 has accelerated rapidly, with the update now in 33 percent of Windows 10 machines, a figure that has tripled since the previous month.
