Microsoft has just released a second preview version of 19H2 for Windows Insiders in the Slow Ring today. Compilation 19362.10005 of 19H2 follows compilation 18362.1 released on July 1, and Microsoft says it includes all patches on Tuesday of patches this month for the May 2019 update, plus a couple of changes and improvements that will be disabled from default form. “As mentioned above, it is possible that the features of these updates are disabled by default and activated through the controlled implementation of functions.
Doing this helps us get better feedback on the overall construction quality. With today’s version of 19H2, we are testing this experience. Our plan is to do a quick follow-up with another 19H2 compilation that activates these features for a subset of Insider and proceed from there based on comments and quality, “the Windows Insider team explained today.
These are the four changes mentioned in the release notes, but they are disabled by default in compilation 18362.1005. Most interestingly, Microsoft will soon allow other digital assistants other than Cortana to be activated by voice directly from the Windows 10 lock screen
- Windows containers require a matching host and container version, which restricts customers and prevents Windows containers from supporting mixed version container pod scenarios This update includes 5 fixes to fix this problem and allows the host runs lower tier containers at the top level for the isolation of the process (Argon).
- allows OEMs to reduce ink latency based on the hardware capabilities of their devices, rather than getting stuck with the latency selected in the typical hardware configuration by the operating system.
- The key rotation or key rotation function allows secure transfer of recovery passwords in managed MDM AAD devices are requested at the request of the tuning / MDM tools or whenever a recovery password is used to unlock the unit protected with BitLocker. This feature will help prevent accidental disclosure of the recovery password as part of the manual unlocking of the BitLocker unit by users.
- A change to allow third-party digital assistants to activate by voice over the Lock screen.
If 19H2 will be a minor update that will be installed as a regular update of “Patch Tuesday”, it seems that this version may be interesting for consumers. The May 2019 update disconnected Cortana from Windows Search, and it seems that Cortana will soon become an application that is updated through the Microsoft Store. With Microsoft planning to make third-party digital assistants available from the lock screen, it seems that Amazon’s Alexa application might soon feel at home on Windows 10 PCs.
If you’re a Slow Ring Insider, have note that this new build 19H2 will be installed as a cumulative update and not as a full build update. Microsoft said the next build of the 19H2 will enable some of the changes announced today for the selected Insiders, and we hope to get more details soon.
