Apple Arcade is a new game streaming service that allows access to more than 100 games on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Here is a look at what you can expect.

In the coming weeks, Apple Arcade will officially launch in the App Store worldwide. The non-advertising gaming platform first arrives on the iPhone on Thursday, September 19 with the public release of iOS 13. It will also be available for iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Here's a look you need to know about Apple's new game subscription service.

What is Apple Arcade?

First announced in March, Apple Arcade is a video game subscription service without ads or in-app purchases. The games are new and exclusive to the service, and come from some of the most important names in mobile games, including Sega, Lego, Snowman and many more. At launch, around 50 game titles will be available with many more releases in the coming weeks. Before the end of 2019, the service will have around 100 titles and will continue to grow. Apple Arcade games support Xbox and Playstation controllers; Many are for multiple players.

The Apple Arcade game links to your iCloud account, which means you can jump from one place to another without losing your place in each game. Better yet, there is no DRM always active, which means you don't need an Internet connection to play. Not surprisingly, you need that connection to resynchronize progress and to confirm your subscription occasionally. The service supports Screen Screen and parental controls.

Price

Apple Arcade is $ 4.99 per month with the first month free. You can cancel your subscription at any time, and each subscription is valid for up to six members of the iCloud family. Think about it like this: a family of four can access all games for only $ 60 per year. It looks like a great deal, doesn't it?

The first titles

At Apple's iPhone 11 event earlier this month, the company demonstrated three of the first games that were launched in the service. In addition to showing a new version of a classic, Frogger in Toy Town showed Sayonara Wild Hearts and Shinsekai in the depths .

File sizes

Apple has not announced the average storage size for Arcade titles. However, they could be significant, depending on the complexity of the game. On the Alps for example, it is 2.69 GB, while Overland is 1.18 GB. On the contrary, a title like Rayman Mini has only 285.8MB. If you plan to play many games, keep this in mind. When it is time to buy a new Apple device, it may be convenient to buy one with more storage.

Is it worth Apple Arcade?

Apple Arcade will surely find an early success and many players thanks to the 30-day initial free trial service. From there, $ 4.99 per month for unlimited access to almost 100 game titles (and eventually more) on multiple platforms (for up to five additional family members), seems worthwhile. We can't wait to see how service developers in the coming weeks and months.

And another thing to keep in mind is that you will not need to constantly use the in-app purchases to continue playing any of the titles included in the subscription

Apple will release iOS 13 and tvOS 13 to the general public on September 19 September. On September 30, iPadOS 13 arrives on the iPad. Later in October, the company plans to launch macOS Catalina for Mac. You will need these updates to use Apple Arcade on each platform.
