Twitch has disabled the ability of new accounts to broadcast live after a trolls attack that flooded a section of the site with pornography, illegal content and hateful images.
The movement occurs when the Twitch team tries to prevent bad actors from abusing their system and makes fun of the rules around copyrighted and illegal videos. A statement from the Twitch support team sent via Twitter specifies that "the safety of our community is our top priority and we are doing everything we can to restore all access as quickly as possible."
The Artifact category of the broadcast service was brigade all weekend by trolls, who reportedly First they fled to the section as a way to join a recent meme. Artifact a card game developed by Valve, was recently named the least popular game on Twitch. Twitch users, and the wider gaming community, have been mired in the game's failure for months, both before and after Valve announced that it was slow to redesign the title by the end of March. But this weekend changed with an avalanche of new broadcasts that used the low visibility of the category to broadcast content that violates Twitch's policies.
The Twitch statement acknowledged that "they noticed a series of accounts directed to the board Artefacto of the game" over the weekend. The Twitch team also acknowledged that the trolls were using the category "to share content that seriously violates our terms of service." Most accounts that "shared and watched content were automated".
Part of the transmission content was included in the general report. , but Motherboard reported that the images of the Christchurch shooting, the New Zealand terrorist attack that spread virally on social media and left more than 50 people dead in early March, were also charged. Twitch had already dealt with people who abused their broadcast platform to broadcast pirated content, such as Game of Thrones Episodes and UFC pay-per-view bouts. However, Twitch, which prevents new users from broadcasting, shows how seriously the company is taking this.
Twitch did not say when new users will be able to broadcast. The moderation team is currently working to remove the content. The Verge has come to more comments.
