This interactive case turns your modular synth setup into a light show

Based in Los Angeles, Strange Electronic has launched Kickstarter for a new type of Eurorack synth module that does not make or control any sound at all. Instead, they incorporate full spectrum LED lighting into a modular setting, adding visual elements to decorate the actual performance.

This product, called Lightstorm, actually consists of two parts of the actual Eurorack module. Frosted acrylic case with multiple parameters to control light, power supply and LED. You can purchase the module separately to connect it to your lighting equipment, but the plug-and-play method using a lighted case is very attractive.

The module has an LED output port. You can use five lighting parameters: pattern, speed, color, saturation, and brightness. There is also a separate trigger input towards the bottom of the module, depending on the selected pattern. This input has a different effect. Each of these parameters has a modulation input. In other words, you can use the same signal that is used to create music with Lightstorm to create a colorful light show. All control voltages can be patched and used as signals for different parts of the lighting experience, allowing the LFO to control the brightness or the sequencer to trigger color changes.

Light Storm Eurorack module

However, this is an advanced option. Lightstorm is designed to allow a modular musician to easily integrate lighting into settings without learning additional skills.

There are some curves. If you are using a selected LED strip, you may need to adjust the software if the number of lights differs from the strip provided with the module. Strange Electronic, however, said it plans to create a tutorial video to guide people through this and other ways to customize Lightstorm.

The case itself is beautiful. Designed for live shows, this product is tilted downward so you can see your hands and yours while the audience is playing. It comes with a power supply, ribbon cable, and integrated LED. Of course, it's made of milky white acrylic, so when used with a Lightstorm module, it becomes an actual light show. An interesting solution that gives artists an easy way to add visual experience to a modular installation.

This is not the first time Strange Electronic has created several products in the past, including flight cases for equipment and professional playback systems. Go to design and manufacture something. However, since it is a small business, both Lightstorm modules and cases will be made by hand (for the time being). This means that the price tag is matched. The module can be ordered for $ 250 and comes with LED strip, LED power supply and LED extension cable. If you want both the module and the case, the bundle can be ordered from the owner for $ 1,100 and has built-in power and lighting.

Lightstorm promises that Lightstorm will be ready for shipment in June of this year, but keep in mind that all kickstarters can make the best decisions before delivery time is delayed and cash is abated due to production problems.
