When it comes to streaming free movies and other digital content, you probably don't think about your local library. But with Hoopla, you can borrow and stream movies and TV shows.
When it comes to finding free movies and TV online, there are many places where you can watch. You can find free live and on-demand content with advertising on The Roku Channel, Pluto TV or Xumo. Vudu offers a large collection of free movies and Plex will soon do the same. Even YouTube isn't just to find cat videos, since you can also watch free movies with YouTube advertising.
But one place you might not think about finding free movies and shows is from your local library. If your library system supports Hoopla, then all you need is a library card and the Hoopla application. Then, you can start borrowing movies and shows, e-books, audiobooks, music and more.
To get started, go to hoopladigital.com and create an account. You must enter an email address and password and then choose your library. You will also have to write your library card number.
After that, you are ready to begin. You can start looking for movies and shows by category and genre. When you find something you like, simply press the "Borrow" button.
Now, you can stream content from your computer. But to download it and enjoy it offline, you must have the application. The Hoopla application is available on Android and iOS. This also allows you to bring your borrowed movies to the big screen through AirPlay or Google Cast. Or, you can download the Hoopla application directly to your Apple TV or Fire TV device as well.
Of course, it's not just for movies and TV shows. You can also choose from a wide catalog of audiobooks and electronic books, comics and music.
Go to the "My Hoopla" section of the application to see a history of what you have borrowed, when an item expires and how many items More you can borrow this month.
Free but limited
Now, it's fair to say that you won't find the latest blockbusters or the best TV shows here. And it has a limited amount of items that you can borrow every month. Still, free is free and many times I find titles that I can't find anywhere else through the service. In addition, there is a lot of content for children that is excellent for parents.
Your local library is no longer a boring and outdated place with moldy books and VHS tapes. Now you can enjoy movies and other content at home or while traveling for free. Also, you never get any annoying rates.
If your library is not part of the Hoopla system or you want to try a similar service, see our article on how to use OverDrive.
