Spotify starts testing its Apple Watch app

Spotify is testing the official Apple Watch application. The Spotify iOS app's beta tester has begun accessing your app, and the first version appears to be limited to the current playback controls. It's unclear whether premium subscribers will be able to sync songs to Apple Watch and make them available even without an iPhone nearby, by adding offline support that Spotify is desperately needing.

The Spotify Apple Watch app is still out of date. Spotify worked closely with unofficial Snowy app developers to provide Spotify offline playback to Apple Watch. Snowy developer Andrew Chang said last year that Spotify hired him to create a companion app using the company's iOS SDK. This is now the first sign of that application.

Over the past year Apple Watch has lost a lot of attention-grabbing applications. Google and Amazon killed the AppleWatch app and also stolen Instagram and Twitter. The official Spotify app for Apple Watch is the key to Apple's smart watch. We will update Spotify with comments about when it will be available in general.
