Microsoft is adding an automatic background blur to Skype video calls this week. With this new feature, you can blur the background during a call to eliminate confusion in your office or home. If you've ever worked at a house or in a busy cafe, it's ideal when you want to get rid of distractions. It can also be helpful in an embarrassing situation, such as when children stop making live Skype calls on TV.
Microsoft introduced the Background Blur feature to Microsoft Teams software last year and is now available in the latest desktop version of Skype. There is no mention of whether the mobile version of Skype will get a background blur. Either way, you can use it on your PC or laptop in Skype's video call menu.
Microsoft says using artificial intelligence will blur everything around you and keep you a primary focus. Skype's background blur should detect your hand, arms, and hair so that the wrong part of the video call is not blurred.
