Pro Tip: Access your App Store updates from the iOS 13 Home screen

iOS 13 removed the old Updates tab in the App Store and replaced it with Apple Arcade. That is bad news if you don't want to use Apple Arcade. But on the positive side, you can access your application updates from the home screen with 3D Touch. And the good news is that, in iOS 13, you can also use this trick on the iPad.

3D Touch, Haptic Touch, long press

Press and hold the App Store icon on iPadOS 13.

Whether it is a 3D Touch, a touch touch, a strong pressure or a long pressure, the result is the same on any device with iOS 13. You will get a pop-up menu with a list of options:

  • Purchased.
  • Updates.
  • Redeem.
  • Search.

All of these are useful, but for today, we are interested in the second item on the list: Updates. Touch that, and the App Store application will open directly in the new floating account panel, which includes all the information from your App Store, access to subscriptions, a list of pending and / or recent updates, and even allows you to remove applications without having to look for their home screen for them

Automatic updates

I keep automatic updates activated (and I've done it for years), but even so, most applications never update automatically. So simply open this screen to update and press Update all to do exactly that. It behaves just like the old tab Updates prior to iOS 13, only it is narrower and harder to use. Seriously, Apple, couldn't you have made the biggest panel on the 13-inch iPad?

This new addition to the iPad is enough to compensate for the descent of my favorite App Store tab to a hidden panel. And, in addition, this new panel actually looks for updates much faster than the previous one.
