Postmates is launching a new delivery option that comes without its sometimes expensive service fees: essentially, sharing the car for your meal.
The new delivery option, called Postmates Party, allows you to choose to receive your meal as part of a group. The food will still be delivered to each person separately, but will be sent in a batch, with the delivery person making several stops along their route.
It means that your order might take a little longer to arrive. But in return, the Postmates reduce their delivery rate, which is sometimes too high to make it worthwhile to place orders.
For now, the Postmates are only launching their Party service in major cities in the US. UU., And it is not clear if it will be available for all restaurants. Postmates list Shake Shack, Blaze Pizza and The Halal Guys as examples of restaurants from which you can group orders.
But for the restaurants available, it can be a good deal if you do not mind waiting. 19659007] However, you will not always be able to join a Party order. Postmates say that party orders will be active at peak times, when several people order from the same restaurant. Once you join a party, you and everyone else who places the order will have five minutes to register.
Group travel was added to transportation services such as Uber and Lyft years ago. In general, they are more efficient and are a good way to save some money as a customer. For the delivery of meals, this type of approach makes even more sense: restaurants already tend to send their delivery people with several orders at once. If Postmates can translate that into free delivery, that's even better for customers.
