Well, this is a strange software flaw. Certain Pixel 3 XL devices display a virtual notch of seconds on the device's screen. This has nothing to do with actual physical notches that accommodate both the sensor as well as the front facing camera. The defect is already resolved by Google and will be resolved in a future software update.
Several users testing the Pixel 3 XL have resolved this problem, including themselves. The problem with my device was temporary, restarted the phone as someone else experienced it, and then reverted to the correct format. Like many Reddit users, UrAvgConsumer found the second mystery notch. And unflattering glitches, consider pixel 3 XL's colorful feelings for already large notches. Nevertheless, according to an answer from Google spokesperson to the Android police (19459003) it will be "coming soon".
