Open personal vault
Personal vault is a protected area of your OneDrive that you can access. Use a strong authentication method or second-level identity verification, such as a fingerprint, face, PIN or code sent to you via email or SMS. 1 Personal Vault provides an additional layer of protection for your users. The most important files, photos and videos (e.g. copies of documents such as passports, driver's licenses or insurance information) must be accessible to someone with your account or device.
Also, this extra security is not slow. You down. Confidently access your important documents, photos, and files from your PC, OneDrive.com, or mobile device. 2
In addition to the second layer of personal authentication, Personal Vault includes the following security measures:
- Search & Shoot -You can scan documents using the OneDrive app or take a photo and keep it with your personal vault.
- Auto Lock — You don't have to worry about opening personal vaults or files. It automatically closes and locks after a certain period of time. 3
- BitLocker Encryption — On Windows 10 PCs, OneDrive automatically syncs your personal Vault files to BitLocker-encrypted areas on your local hard drive. 4
- Limited Sharing -You can't share files in Personal Vault and shared items that have been moved to Personal Vault to prevent accidental sharing.
Use this security measure together to verify that a Personal Vault file is missing. Even if your Windows 10 PC or mobile device is lost, stolen or someone has access to your account or accounts, your PC will not be stored unprotected and will provide additional protection to your files.
Personal Vault is the latest security feature in OneDrive, which includes file encryption at rest and transfer, monitoring suspicious logins, ransomware detection and recovery, and bulk processing. File deletion notification and recovery, virus scan on download for known threats, password protected shared links and version history of all file types.
