Microsoft Word for Android has been installed more than 1 billion times

Microsoft has recently made a particularly remarkable milestone. According to the Google Play Store, the Android version of Microsoft Word has passed 1 billion installations ( Android Police ).

Other Office applications in the company are doing pretty well. Spreadsheet applications Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and OneDrive each have over 500 million installations, and email client for Android Outlook has over 100 million installations. Android Police pointed out that these figures are not necessarily downloaded from Google's Play Store, and Microsoft has made some contracts with some manufacturers and pre-installed apps on a variety of devices.

The milestones are also somewhat ironic. Last month, Bill Gates pointed out in one interview that the "biggest mistake" in the mobile OS world was missing, noting that it was only natural for Microsoft to win a space for one of its iOS competitors. However, while Microsoft's mobile efforts have never reached competitors' success, mobile versions of Microsoft Office still enjoy significant market penetration as desktops.
