At the end of August, we learned that Microsoft was planning its next Surface event for October 2, although the fact that it announced hardware was more a guess than an official confirmation. But today Microsoft sent a second formal invitation to journalists, and now it is clear that the company is planning great things for its next event.
There are two main details that allude to an important announcement: TNW has learned both Surface The CEO, Panos Panay, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, will attend. On the other hand, Microsoft will broadcast the event live this time.
This October 2 we will show the world what follows for Surface and Microsoft … and we will do it live. Tune in https://t.co/gL1bQ1Wmas at 10 a.m. EDT. #MicrosoftEvent #GetReady #Pumped pic.twitter.com/opDaJOsLGf

The details may not seem like much, but they are worth noting. While Panay is always at Surface events, Nadella is only there occasionally. Similarly, several Surface events have been low profile events, press only, without live streaming. The company did not have a live stream for Surface Book 2 or Pro 6, for example. But had a live broadcast when he introduced Surface Studio and Surface Book 2, the main new hardware categories for the company.
We understand that Microsoft will have both hardware and software to show off. We will probably see a new Surface Book, which is almost 2 years old, and perhaps an increase in specifications for more recent Surface Go, Pro and Laptop. But we also believe that the company is likely to finally reveal its extra-portable dual-screen Surface, which has been rumored for a long time, with the code name Centaurus. We've also heard rumors of a Surface speaker.
Centaurus is expected to run Microsoft Windows Lite which is rumored to be the company's first mobile alternative to Windows 10 This will run universal Windows applications and come with a completely new interface (to unlike Windows 10 S less notable and unpopular).
We will be there on October 2, so stay tuned for more information. The live team starts at 10 in the morning of that day, and you can watch it here.
