Microsoft unveils new Surface Book 2 model with Intel’s latest quad-core processor

Microsoft is silently updating its Surface Book 2 base model today. The software giant is introducing Intel's latest eighth-generation i5 quad-core i5 processor for the 13-inch Surface Book 2 model, and maintains the existing seventh-generation dual-core model at a discounted price of $ 1,299. The updated quad-core model will cost $ 1,499 and includes an i5-8350U that increases the processor's maximum clock speed to 3.6 GHz.

The new mid-range Surface Book 2 will also include 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. The processor is the only significant change, but it should make a big difference in performance. We saw impressive performance jumps in the Surface Pro 6 quad-core models compared to the dual-core chips used in previous models. Microsoft has quietly released this new model today, after rumors that the company planned to update Surface Book 2.

Microsoft also holds a Surface event on April 17 in New York City. The company is expected to detail the prices and availability of its Surface Hub 2 hardware and associated Steelcase office furniture and accessories. The Verge will cover Microsoft's Surface NYC event, so stay tuned for all the news.
