Microsoft has been consistently designing some of the best Windows and 2 in 1 tablets for years with its Surface line. However, when Surface Pro 6 was launched in October 2018, there were relatively few improvements compared to the 2017 model. So, we began to wonder if we would see more impactful improvements in the Surface Pro formula.
Enter Surface Pro 7. Now we are starting to see all kinds of patents for the new Surface Pro that is coming out of the carpentry and that can change the way we use the Microsoft tablets.
For example, there is a new USB-C magnetic surface charger that we really hope will come to fruition. Combine that with the new Intel Ice Lake processors that should be released sometime this year, that is, if Microsoft does not include it with the new ARM processor and the Surface Pro 7 I could end up being the most powerful model so far.
However, because nothing has been confirmed, all this is an informed speculation. Even so, we will update this article with any new information that may arise.
Court to the persecution
- What is it? The next Surface Pro tablet
- When is it available? By the end of 2019 at the earliest
- How much will it cost? Probably around $ 899 (£ 879, AU $ 1,349) to start.
Release date of Surface Pro 7
Because Surface Pro 6 only came out a few months ago, it is unlikely that we will see the next one anytime soon in 2019.
Surface Pro 4 and Surface Pro 6 were released in October 2015 and 2018, respectively. However, the Surface Pro 2017 saw a release date in June. It is possible that the Surface Pro 7 is released in October 2019, but the launch rate for Surface Pro devices seems to be approximately every 16 to 18 months.
In other words, we could see the Surface Pro 7 until the spring or summer of 2020.. We could see it go out in October, if Microsoft wants to aim for that annualized launch, but we'll believe it when we see it.
Do not worry, we'll update this article as soon as possible. we hear any word, official or otherwise, on the release date of Microsoft Surface Pro 7.
Price of Surface Pro 7
The Surface Pro 6 was launched at $ 899 (£ 879 , AU $ 1,349) for the base model, a notable increase in the price over the Surface Pro 2017, the base model of which was $ 799 (£ 799, AU $ 1,199). Therefore, the pricing of the Surface Pro 7 can go in two ways: either you get another price increase of $ 100, or it may stay at the same price. However, we doubt that the price will go down again.
If the price goes up another $ 100 and starts at $ 999 (approximately £ 770, AU $ 1,380), it will place the Surface Pro 7 in the same league as devices like Dell XPS 13 and the HP Specter x360 – not to mention the new iPad Pro .
Like anything else here, we will not know the real price of the Surface Pro 7 until Microsoft is ready to share it. But, we will update this article as soon as that happens.
What we want to see
Because Surface Pro 7 is so far now, it's hard to predict what exactly will be on the next Surface device. However, based on all the patents that Microsoft has recently filed, as an update to the Surface Pen that would make it more accurate we have created a list of updates that we would like to see.
Back in CES 2019 Intel announced Ice Lake, the first Sunny Cove architecture for laptops. And, although we still do not know how well these processors will work, the smaller manufacturing process will inevitably lead to better performance and efficiency.
However, we have seen some rumors that Surface devices equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon are "floating" . It is unlikely that the high-end Surface Pro 7 uses an ARM processor like this, as there would be problems with software emulation of x86 applications. However, we could see an entry-level Surface device that uses these ARM chips.
If the Surface Pro 7 includes these new processors, you can expect significantly improved performance and battery life across the board.
Thunderbolt 3, please
Microsoft, for obvious reasons that are not worth entering here, has hesitated to implement Thunderbolt 3 on its Surface Products. And, although this was excusable in the first days, it is increasingly difficult to ignore it with each launch of Surface.
Fortunately, we have reason to believe that Microsoft will launch the Surface Pro 7 with support for Thunderbolt 3, or at least the basic USB-C load. Microsoft has patented a new magnetic charger with a USB-C input that would function as the current Surface charger.
We're really not sure if Surface Pro 7 is compatible with Thunderbolt 3, since it depends on Microsoft's willingness to exchange its patented Thunderbolt 3 technology, which it must pay Intel for its license.
An improved type Cover
The type cover of the Surface Pro 6 is already one of the best keyboard tablet accessories available. Not only is it very sensitive, it also has many comments and is made of solid materials. However, we have not seen any notable improvements since its Surface Pro 2017. We do not believe that there is a perfect product, so we want to see how Microsoft improves the formula below.
I like load capacities, we could have an idea of the next generation of Type Cover. Microsoft has patented a thinner Type Cover that should reduce the device's footprint throughout. It seems that Microsoft is planning to do this by using a trackpad built into the printed circuit board.
You could also use haptic feedback on the keys, to improve the tactile response of the writing, which would be necessary in a thinner keyboard cover.
It's a strange move, but we're intrigued, however, if Microsoft can make the Type Cover slimmer without falling into the same trap as Apple's Butterfly keyboards, it could be a game changer.
We have also seen a patent that would make the fabric covering the Type Cover more intelligent . It would have touch sensitivity, so you could go through news and photos without having to find the touchpad or touch screen. We're not sure who was asking for this technology, but it's still a good idea.
