Microsoft reveals all the Google things it removed in its Chromium Edge browser

Microsoft has just released previous versions of its Edge browser with Chromium technology today. If you downloaded it to test it, you have probably noticed that it is very stable and performs surprisingly well. It even performs better than Google's Chrome browser in Windows 10, despite being built on the same Chromium open source project. While these are the first days for Microsoft's new Edge, the company has revealed all the Google services it has replaced or removed from its new browser with Chromium to optimize performance.

Microsoft has removed or replaced more than 50 of the Google services that come as part of Chromium, including items such as ad blocking, Google Now, Google Cloud Messaging, and services related to Chrome OS. Microsoft's Edge engineering team should reveal more about its work with Chromium during a BlinkOn 10 presentation tomorrow, and this will include more details on what was removed and changed in the implementation of Google's Chromium.

Microsoft is also working on ARM support for Chromium, along with improvements in PDF, improvements in battery life, smooth scrolling, editing, design , web development and authentication tools. Developers can help test these changes using daily compiled versions of Edge or weekly developer, and Microsoft is expected to release a more stable beta soon (with updates every six weeks).

Microsoft also notes that "the creation of Edge in Chromium was a relatively smooth process," and that it has made hundreds of changes in Chromium to produce its Edge version with more than 300 combinations so far. It is clear that we are only in the start phase of an Edge powered by Chromium, and Microsoft is also developing versions that will run on Windows 8, Windows 7 and macOS.
