Microsoft first penetrated the top five PC makers in the United States. Market researcher Gartner said today that Microsoft has accounted for 4.1 percent of the US PC market and placed Acer at number five. This is the first time that Microsoft has topped the US in terms of surface devices.
Although Microsoft remains No. 1 in the United States, there is still work to do before it is replicated around the world. Acer and Asus are fifth in the world, and Lenovo is at the forefront of the global market. Gartner and IDC agree that Lenovo is the best PC manufacturer, but both research institutions offer different estimates of overall shipments. According to Gartner, PC shipments rose 0.1 percent in the third quarter of 2018, while IDCs fell 0.9 percent.
Gartner figures are always different because of the major differences in how Gartner and IDC calculate their PCs. Data from IDC includes Chromebooks and excludes Windows tablets and devices with removable keyboards such as Surface tablets. Gartner considered Windows-based tablet PCs as PCs and excluded Chromebooks or non-Windows-based tablets.
The PC market is still horizontal after six years and is expected to grow again earlier this year. Recently, mergers with top PC makers such as Lenovo, HP and Dell are increasing, and Apple, Acer and Asus Market share is losing.
Microsoft is now a part of the US market share, just like the new Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2, Surface Studio 2, and Surface headphones expand the appeal of Surface. . Market share came a few weeks before Microsoft reported an economic benefit for the first quarter of 2019. Surface sales increased by 25% to $ 1.1 billion in the last quarter, making Surface a $ 1 billion business for Microsoft.
