Microsoft beats Amazon to win the Pentagon’s $10 billion JEDI cloud contract

The US government has signed a $ 10 billion cloud contract with Microsoft, which the Pentagon confirmed. Known as Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JDI), the agreement will provide Pentagon with cloud services for native storage and power, ranging from artificial intelligence processing, machine learning, and mission-critical workload processing capabilities.

As the company fought Amazon to gain a cloud edge, a major contract with Microsoft was made, raising questions about whether Microsoft or Amazon could beat this particular company. In April, both IBM and Oracle were removed for bidding, leaving only Microsoft and Amazon as the only companies that could meet the requirements. The agreement was controversial throughout the bidding process, and Oracle lost legal issues after claiming the agreement was a conflict of interest.

President Trump participated in the bidding process and said the government was reviewing the contract after complaining "big complaints" to Amazon and Microsoft from competitors. Trump was criticized by Amazon and his CEO Jeff Bezos for the company's tax contract .

A ten-year contractor will be considered a big win for Microsoft, employees. You do not necessarily have to agree. Thousands of Googlers protested against a technology conglomerate that participated in the Department of Defense's "Path Finder" AI program, known as Project Maven. Google ultimately retired from work and was not included in the final bidding process for this contract.

Microsoft employees also asked the company to withdraw the HoloLens US military contract, which eventually led the military to offer more than 100,000 augmented reality headsets for combat and training. Microsoft is still fulfilling the contract, and the US military is already using a modified HoloLens 2 headset for soldiers.
