Leaked spreadsheet shows salary info shared by some Microsoft employees

Once again, Microsoft employees are using a crowdsourcing method to possibly affect the change within the company. In April, Microsoft employees circulated an email chain representing acts of sexual harassment and encouraged others to add to their communications their own personal encounters with inappropriate, overlooked or endorsed acts of abuse.

Similarly, OneZero Medium reports that Microsoft employees are sharing their salaries and salary numbers with each other to better understand the disparity in compensation within the company.

Originally driven by participation in a private Facebook group called Young Microsoft FTE or Full Time Employees, about 400 employees of 144,000 have shared their personal salaries, ironically, on a Google sheet to sympathize with disparate income across the company.

OneZero received shared access to the document by a former Microsoft employee, while a current employee confirmed its authenticity according to the site.

Produced by employees working in a company based on productivity software, the sheet comes with a detailed breakdown of compensation in the form of graphs that display various data points that include years of employment versus years of experience, percentages of increases "based on merits" against the base payment, as well as tangential income through the distribution of shares and cash bonuses. Despite the level of detail, the crowdsourcing compensation sheet does not offer a graph or metric about gender-based payment, which could be something that will be added later.

According to sources who speak with OneZero, this way of sharing compensation is normal when employees prepare for a season of increases and promotions.

While the numbers collected in the Google Doc are representative of a small sample size, they show several common trends between compensation and employee methods for salary increases. Some of the payment details include employees who leave the company in a pay grade and then return to a higher one when they spend time outside in business of probable competition, the bonus percentage or promotional payment that comes in the form of Stock bonds the higher the degree payment, or how often a cash bonus is paid.

In addition, Google Doc highlighted the discrepancies in payment between the United States-based encoders and their Indian counterparts, to be more than a 2/3 difference with US encoders They receive up to $ 150,000 a year compared to the $ 50,000 for Indian workers.
