Today's post was written by Arne Ingebrigtsen, the local municipality of Christian Sunshine. Kristiansund is spread across four islands on Norway's midwest coast, and is one of the most populous municipalities in the country / region.
Three years ago, we started looking for ways to improve our IT infrastructure. Our goal was to help city workers collaborate more effectively and easily adopt new technologies. This decision led to innovations that changed the way we work with colleagues, citizens, and other municipalities. At the heart of this shift is Microsoft Teams (a hub for Microsoft Office 365 teamwork and a previously lost infrastructure puzzle).
Work hard to collaborate.
Christie Asund de municipality has more than 50 innovative projects. At any time they often require cooperation between stakeholders in other cities or municipalities driving or ferry.
In the past, we worked together through traditional methods of communication. Email chain. Many departments have actually sent documents to each other using an internal publishing system.
Working in this way, we had few municipalities that citizens would receive. I experimented with a communication app but couldn't integrate it properly into the workflow to affect it.
Redeveloping the City Workflow
Kristiansund was convinced after seeing the keynote address by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. We needed a shift in our approach to collaboration. We had to use a tool that could be a key part of the workflow, not the app we used sometimes.
The team was able to see that this change was made and decided to distribute it to the municipality. At the same time, we immediately stopped using real mail and removed all existing PBX phone systems.
Discovering new ways to collaborate
The team has radically changed the way they collaborate. Today, we can share screens, send files and record conversations, so we use teams to hold all meetings, even if we're in the same room. In addition, there is no need to travel, so employees can use their time more productively. It also has access to guests through the team, making it easy to hold video conferences with participants from other municipalities.
This change made everyday communication faster and more organized. Instead of sharing files and sending emails electronically instead of sending real mail, you often use team chat to discuss projects and tasks. Teams quickly responded to requests and became more agile.
Now you make 100% calls using Teams, so you no longer pay for existing phone lines. In addition, two-thirds of your employees can set up a team on their mobile devices, allowing them to use the same chat and video features outside the office. Just a year later, employees average two video conferences each month.
Modern IT Features
We've moved to the cloud to streamline our IT systems. Kristiansund is using Microsoft 365, and the Enterprise Mobility + Security platform provides the tools they need to collaborate securely. Internal communications are now fully encrypted and compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDP).
Previously, wireless networking was rather cumbersome and some tasks required using wired connections. As long as the cloud is protected today, devices on the network do not need to be as reliable and secure as they used to be. Azure Advanced Threat Protection does so by intelligently protecting users and devices in the cloud using open wireless networking. Not only can you move all your critical applications to the cloud, but you can also connect to the Zero Trust network. You no longer need a wired connection, and as a result your team is much more mobile.
Microsoft cloud makes the life of your IT team much easier. Instead of responding to issues, IT technicians can focus on monitoring IT service quality because everything is done in the cloud. Also, you no longer have to spend time setting up your computer. Microsoft Intune has it all ready. Each division has a separate team to develop and maintain new innovations. To help organizations speed up new developments, IT teams have deployed Teams Bot so everyone knows what they're working on.
With a zero trust architecture, you have the opportunity to run on stock computers and inexpensive clients. In case of software problems on the computer, we simply take out spare parts and use Windows Autopilot to provision user accounts within Intune. We ran our IT infrastructure in the cloud and saved at least half the cost of computers using tools like Intune.
Create a better place of living
Team-changing ways with team and enterprise mobility + security We provide municipal services. Residents can now book public places such as conference rooms or city halls through an online portal. The backend is associated with Azure Active Directory, allowing users to directly access the schedule of each asset.
The recent achievements have been to launch a fully personalized system for interacting with residents. Everyone in Norway has a country ID number that links to personal data in the government database. The security provided by Microsoft 365 allows residents to enter their ID into the local portal. You can then request specific services, such as fixing a street lamp in your neighborhood, and the staff will see the request from the team. Even local power companies have consolidated orders and power outages into one of their municipal teams to keep residents and us up to date on one of our urban infrastructures.
We are aware of the problem for residents as we roll out sensors throughout the city. What to do. In the previous example, when the occupant logs in, a new update for the faulty street lamp is immediately displayed. The goal is to make sure everyone has the ultimate visibility into what's happening in the city.
Helping locals feel at home
Kristiansund has made a big leap forward with the innovations provided by the team and Microsoft 365. To serve our residents, we create local governments where efficient and productive collaboration is standard. It benefits both government officials and residents.
