Instagram is testing in-app reminders for merch drops

Instagram could allow brands to set reminder notifications about merch drops. The company announced today that it is partnering with about 20 brands in the United States to begin, including Adidas, Highsnobiety Chinatown Market, Revolve and Huda Beauty.

The reminder works similarly to what users can already configure for more general releases in Stories, although these new brands of stickers and creators that they can use are more specific and launch the shopping function in the Instagram application. The reminder will appear the day before the fall, as well as fifteen minutes before launch. Although this is just a test, it makes sense for Instagram to explore, since artists and brands already use the platform to make fun of limited edition merch drops. At this time, people have to set their own alarms to remember.

Lately, Instagram focused much of its effort on creating an effective purchasing platform. Last year on the podcast The Verge Why did you press that button? Layla Amjadi, product manager of Instagram Shopping, said the company is working to build a "custom mall" for everyone.
