Synchronize your Gmail contacts with your Thunderbird address book using this handy extension.
Do you work between Gmail and other IMAP accounts? If so, do you use the open source Thunderbird email client? If so, you may want your Google Contacts to synchronize with your Thunderbird address book.
That's right. With the help of a simple extension, you can add all those Google Contacts to Thunderbird without too much trouble.

Let me guide you through this process. I will demonstrate it in Thunderbird 60.7.2 ( Note: This extension does not work in the daily version of Thunderbird). I will assume that you already have Thunderbird installed and working properly.
The first thing you should do is install gContactSync. Before that can be achieved, download the necessary file from the gContactSync site. Once you have downloaded that file, open Thunderbird and click on the menu button. From the Thunderbird menu, click Add-ons. In the Add-ons window, click on the settings icon and select Install add-in from file ( Figure A ).
Search for the downloaded file, select Accept (or Open, depending on your platform) and (when prompted) click in Install now ( Figure B ).
To finish above the installation, restart Thunderbird When it is reopened, the gContactsSync wizard will open ( Figure C ).
Select Use a new account and then type your Gmail address. Click Next and you will be greeted by the tried and true Google login ( Figure D ).
Once you authenticate your Google account, you will be presented with the gContactSync Settings window ( Figure E ), where you can select the Address Book and Groups / Contacts to synchronize, as well as select the address for synchronization.
I recommend checking the Skip contacts box without an e-mail address, since your Google Contacts probably contain Several people who do not have an associated email address. There is no reason to add these people, since you will not send them by email without an address.
Once completed, you should see your new Gmail contacts in the Thunderbird Address Book.
And that's all there is to sync your Thunderbird address book with your Gmail contacts. As an additional benefit, if you configure the plug-in to perform a two-way synchronization, any contact you add to that Thunderbird address book will automatically sync with Google Contacts. That is a mutual benefit to keep your email efficient.
