In recent years, the iPhone configuration process has changed as dramatically as the iPhone itself. Apple keeps making it easier to do. So easy, in fact, that there are only a few things you should do to move from your old iPhone to a new one. And setting up a new iPhone 11 from scratch is not much more difficult: the days of manually copying passwords have already passed just to get to the home screen.
However, there are still some tricks that will help things work smoothly. Let's see how to set up your new iPhone the right way. Whether you have a new iPhone 11 or an iPhone 11 Pro, the process is identical.
Restoring your iPhone from backup
This is undoubtedly the easiest way to move from an old iPhone to a new one. All you have to do is make sure you have a recent backup of your existing iPhone (or even iPad), and then point your new iPhone 11 to this iCloud backup. Then you will download everything: all your settings, applications, passwords, even your wallpaper. When the process is finished, and it could take a while, depending on the speed of the Internet and the size of the backup, it will be as if you had never left the old iPhone. Even the tabs of Safari will be intact.
To make a backup, go to the iCloud settings on your iPhone and verify that there is a recent automatic backup. If not, just do one manually. Go to Settings> Your name> iCloud> iCloud Backup and tap Backup now . Wait until it's over.
Automatic configuration for iPhone 11
Now, use automatic configuration. This fantastic feature came with iOS 11. Simply bring your old and new devices closer when prompted, and Auto Setup will copy your Apple ID and your home's Wi-Fi settings. It's like AirDrop, only for a very specific purpose.
It works like this: when you turn on your new iPhone for the first time, any nearby iOS device will detect it and offer you to perform an automatic setup. The new device will display a point cloud pattern on its screen. Simply use the camera of your previous device to "scan" this as a QR code. Then just follow. Your iCloud login, Wi-Fi passwords and everything else you need are automatically transferred. It really is amazing.
iTunes or iCloud?
From there, you can configure the iPhone 11 as a new device or restore it from a backup.
A tip to restore from backups. You may prefer to use an iTunes backup instead of an iCloud backup. If you do this, keep in mind that it can take much longer. Also, be sure to check the box in iTunes to encrypt the backup. In this way, all your passwords will also be backed up and restored. Unencrypted backups do not include this confidential information.
Unfortunately, iTunes backups and restorations can be very slow. If you have a fast internet connection, the restoration of iCloud is much faster. Otherwise, an iTunes restoration may be the way to go.
New in 2019 – iPhone Migration
If your current device is running iOS 12.4 or later, you can perform automatic configuration via a cable or wirelessly. Apple has instructions, as do we.
If you choose to follow the cable path, simply connect the old iPhone to the new iPhone using a Lightning cable and the Camera Connection Kit. This should be faster than with an iTunes or iCloud restore. However, keep in mind that applications will still download, not transfer, so you will still need a fast Internet connection.
Configure Face ID
Face ID is much easier to use than Touch ID, and it is also easier to use. prepare. Instead of having to train your iPhone with your fingerprints, one by one, you just look at the camera and … that's almost everything. To configure Face ID on your iPhone, do the following when prompted during initial setup. (If you want to start over with a phone that you previously set up, go to Settings> Face ID and access code and tap your password to start.)
If you regularly have a second appearance, you have a clown, a surgeon, an Elvis impersonator or something similar, then you can also set up an alternative appearance. Simply tap the button in the Face ID settings to configure this.
Setting up a new iPhone 11 from scratch
If you don't have an old iPhone or iPad to copy the settings, you will have to do things manually. After turning on your iPhone for the first time, follow the instructions to choose the language of your iPhone, connect to your Wi-Fi network and enter your Apple ID password. Once you get to the home screen, it's time to take a look at our post on how to configure your new iPhone X in the right way, which will guide you through the most important settings and settings.
Setting up your new iPhone 11 is easy. In fact, these days it is so easy that I would rather quickly set it up as a new iPhone, rather than restore it immediately, so you can start playing with it faster. Then, when ready, you can reset it, let the restoration run overnight and wake up with a new iPhone in the morning.
