Have you ever been part of one of those threads where your boss sends a rather benign but pointless email, and then one of your less intelligent coworkers hijacks the thread? with answers to everyone about the dress code for the next teamwork excursion of the office? In a short time, the thread is a shameful discussion about whether sneakers count as casual shoes and who will sit where during dinner.

His silly co-worker (hopefully) ends up receiving a not promoting mark in his personal file. While you, thanks to today's advice, manage not only to stay above the fray, but to ignore it completely. That's because you're about to see how easy it is to mute an email thread so you never have to see it again.

How to mute an email thread on iOS 13

Like almost all other advanced features of Apple Mail Application, this is hidden behind the reply arrow. To mute an email thread, just touch the reply arrow while viewing the thread. You will see this menu:

Press the reply arrow to see the advanced options, including one that allows you to mute the email threads.

The menu item you want is, of course, Silence . It is just below Notify me that it does the opposite. (We also have a tutorial on that, if you want to read more about it.)

All you have to do to silence the conversation is to tap this button. You will no longer receive notifications of incoming emails in this thread. Emails will continue to go to your inbox, but if you have "organize by thread" enabled in the Mail settings, they will all be grouped together in an easy-to-ignore place. And if you have all Mail notifications disabled, the squelch will not really work, because there is nothing else to mute.

This is a powerful tool to tame your inbox. No matter how many times you delete a thread like this, the emails will keep coming. It's much better to let them come and use the new iOS 13 mute setting to ignore them. It is much easier and much better for your sanity
