How to disable Windows Defender on Windows 10

Method 4: Disable Windows Defender Antivirus by Registry Editor

If you use Windows 10 Home, you cannot access the Policy Editor of local group However, you can still disable Windows Defender using the Registry.

Note : Before performing the following steps, you must create a backup copy of the Registry to avoid the worst case scenario. To perform a backup, open the File => Export … to create a registry backup file. When you want to recover, simply open the File => Import … then navigate back up and then restore it.

  1. Press Windows + R to open the window Run then type Regedit and press Enter (or click OK) to open the Registry.
  2. In the Registration window, navigate to the
