How to Create Your Own Custom Theme on Windows 10

Microsoft has several prefabricated themes that you can download from the Windows Store. But you may want to make your own with your own photos and colors. Here's how to make one.

Most users like to change the appearance of the Windows 10 experience on their PCs once while. Microsoft has several themes that you can install from Microsoft Store. They include different backgrounds, window border colors and system sounds based on a wide variety of themes.

The company added a dark theme some versions back and with Windows 10 1903, also known as "May 2019 update," includes a new clear theme that you can enable. But you may want to create and save your own custom theme for an even more personalized experience.

Create a custom Windows 10 theme

To create your custom theme go to Settings> Personalization> Background . In the "Choose your image" section, click the Browse button and select the folder that contains the image you want to use. Then, choose a setting: "Fill" usually works best for high quality images. But you can select what works best based on the image quality and resolution of your monitor.

Please note that you can also obtain revolving funds. Be it quality images that you have taken yourself or HD images downloaded from the web, be sure to place them in a single folder. Select Slideshow from the Background drop-down menu.

Then choose the folder with all the images you want to use. After that, modify the behavior, such as how often the background changes and the drum options. Keep in mind that a rotating bottom will use more battery juice.

Choose colors

Next, go to the Colors tab and choose the color accent you want to use. You can have Windows automatically choose the color according to your background image or customize yours. Here you can also choose the surfaces where it is displayed. Like the title bars or the Action Center, for example.

Save theme

Once you have everything set up, you'll want to save your theme. Click on the Themes tab and then on the Save theme button.

Once you have saved your theme it will appear in the list of others available that you created or installed when you go to Settings> Personalization > Topics .

If you don't mind going through all the problems, you can install prefabricated Microsoft themes. Simply go to Settings> Themes and click on the Store link. For more details, see our article on how to install Windows 10 themes from the Microsoft Store.
