Google’s Pixel 3A is refreshingly easy to repair

iFixit made its disassembly of Google's new Pixel 3A and 3A XL smartphones, giving the devices a repairable score of 6 out of 10. The site found that the new Pixel's screen is quite easy to remove, without the Heat gun or blow dryer that is often necessary to melt the adhesive that secures the screens on many of today's phones.

Instead, Google uses a "spongy and easy to separate adhesive". The disadvantage here, and probably a key reason for the Pixel 3A's lack of water resistance, is that it is easier for water to seep through the perimeter of the outside screen and on the phone

On the positive side, components that tend to wear out over time, such as the USB-C port and even the headphone jack that comes back is modular and can be replaced freely without meticulous effort. Google definitely gets some points there. As long as you avoid having your Pixel 3A or 3A XL bathe, you should be able to exchange the defective parts and keep the phone working as it should. The battery is also easy to replace, since it uses the elastic adhesive that simplifies the disassembly of the phone's case.

All this said, the last pixels of Google come with some repair obstacles. iFixit notes that "the myriad of thin and long ribbon cables that connect the internal components can be unpleasant for work and easy to accidentally break". Therefore, be attentive. To see more closely each chip that makes up the Pixel 3A, take a look at the complete disassembly. And if you're wondering, the normal Pixel 3 only got 4 out of 10, which iFixit highlighted several obstacles, even for basic repairs, like having to remove the glue from the rear glass panel to replace anything .
