Google News app bug is using up gigabytes of background data without users’ knowledge

Some of our users of Google News for Android report excessive charges for using excessive background data. According to dozens of posts in the Google News Help Forum, users already had this issue in June. In September, the Google News Community Manager investigated this issue to investigate and resolve it, but we identified and resolved the issue.

Verge Reader Zach Dowdle emailed me in his own experience, but screenshot of his app and Wi-Fi data usage.

The Google News app randomly uses a huge amount of background data without your knowledge. My app has slept and Wi-Fi has been disconnected and my phone has exhausted more than 12 gigabytes of data. There is an extra charge of $ 75.

According to several users, apps are corrupted via mobile data, even though Wi-Fi downloading is turned on in Settings. In extreme cases, the Google News app reported that users were charged up to $ 385 for up to 24GB of data. So far, the only solution is to disable background data and delete all apps. I've contacted you about the issue and will update it with a response.
