Google begins cluttering its mobile homepage

Google's new search feed, announced on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of last month, was found on Google's mobile homepage, as it first appeared in 9to5Google . This feature adds a series of info cards under the search box on the homepage when accessed from a mobile browser. Most of these cards rotate around related news, but feeds can display sports results and weather forecasts, and are based on interests and search history.

This update is an important change in the world's most traffic-rich web pages, and it has remained pretty clean except for the core search box. This is a big signal of Google's changing attitude toward information retrieval. Search engines are increasingly trying to predict the information they want before actually searching directly. Google's mobile Chrome browser already shows a similar story and spread of information every time you open a new tab.
