Are you ready for Gamescom 2019 ? With the summer game event about to begin, and some of the most important titles in the game calendar will be on display, you better do it.
While Gamescom is not usually a great show for commercials, that is usually the competition of the previous E3 2019 event in July: journalist and presenter Geoff Keighley has been changing the formula, presenting a live broadcast of the pre-show announcement called Opening Night Live, which featured ads and new content from Square Enix, Google Stadia, Epic Games and many more (you can see what was announced below).
TechRadar will be live from Cologne throughout this week, bringing all the latest news, announcements and advances from Gamescom 2019.
So, without further ado, here is everything you need to know about Gamescom 2019, including the latest news, rumors, exhibitor schedules and our predictions about what we will probably see at the fair.
For the first time for the massive game event, Geoff Keighley (the creator of The Game Awards) started the beginning of Gamescom in a live show called Opening Night Live. As promised, there was a wide mix of world premiere content and announcements, including another attempt by Hideo Kojima to explain the disconcerting game Death Stranding and its variety of babies, BT (shadow creatures) and urination mechanisms. You have read it well.
We also received a revelation of Little Nightmares II, a new Gears 5 trailer, a release date of The Witcher III for Nintendo Switch and news that Devil May Cry 5 and Blair Witch Project are coming to Xbox Game Pass.
Isn't it enough for you? You can watch the broadcast for yourself below:
More than 15 game publishers will release new content and make announcements during @gamescom Opening Night Live. An exciting show will be held on Monday, August 19! I hope you can tune in and watch the stream! pic.twitter.com/THAv4bvZlm[19459015fm6deagostode2019[19659014[Keighleyhasexcellentcontactswithinthegamingindustrysoweexpectedsomeamazingannouncementstocomeoutoftheprogram
The live broadcast was available to watch on Twitch on August 19 at 7pm BST / 11am PT / 2pm ET / 8pm CEST or on August 20 at 4am AEST.
Sony will attend Gamescom 2019 will be the company's first public appearance of the year, and we are very excited after a period of silence from radio so long
The silence has certainly been broken, with the news that Sony has acquired its former partner Insomniac, which was behind its brilliant Marvel & # 39; s Spider-Man game. Certainly, something said about Death Stranding, but we would be lying if we said we understood everything. There wasn't much in the way of The Last of Us: Part 2 or Ghost of Tsushima either.
Despite announcing the PS5 earlier this year, we don't think Sony is likely to reveal more about its next-generation console during Gamescom 2019. But we can always wait …
Microsoft Xbox is becoming quite difficult for Gamescom 2019. Xbox will have almost 200 seats on the exhibition floor, including the first public practice of Minecraft Dungeons and Gears 5 & # 39; s Horde Mode Fans will also have the opportunity to try Project xCloud.
We didn't get the scoop on Halo Infinite or Sea of Thieves that we expected during Opening Night Live, but a new Gears 5 trailer was somehow to make up for that. During a special episode of Inside Xbox before the event, Microsoft also promised ray tracing support for Minecraft, which should give the sandbox block game even more attractive blocks. We are still waiting for more details about Xbox Project Scarlett, but hello.
Xbox will also organize Open Doors at the Gloria Theater from August 21 to 23. Admission to Xbox Open Doors is free and fans can participate in community events, game tournaments, panel sessions and other experiences.
Check out the opening hours below:
- Tuesday, August 20 – 9am to 7pm. CEST (press / trade day)
- Wednesday, August 21 – 9am to 8pm CEST
- Thursday, August 22 – 9am – 8pm CEST
- Friday, August 23 – 9am – 8pm CEST
- Saturday, August 24 – 9am – 8pm CEST
Nintendo has now revealed what its plans will be on and off the show's schedule.
Gamescom runs from August 20 to 24, but most of Nintendo's online activity will take place between August 20 and 22. During these dates, those who do not attend the program will be able to watch a series of videos with extended play of the editor's next Switch lineup.
Games that will spend time in the spotlight will include Luigi & # 39; s Mansion 3, The Legend of Zelda: Link & # 39; s Awakening, The Witcher 3, Astral Chain, Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Dragon Quest 10 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
For visitors to the showroom, Nintendo will have a booth where it will be possible to obtain titles that include The Legend of Zelda: Link & # 39; s Awakening, Luigi & # 39; s Mansion 3, Dragon Quest 10 S, Pokémon Sword and Shield and even that long-awaited port of The Witcher 3.
The new gameplay is fine, but if you don't like anything more than a good competition, then you'll want to tune into the exclusive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Gamescom 2019 Invitational de Nintendo on August 22. The event will begin airing on the Nintendo YouTube channel in the afternoon and we will see players face to face for the opportunity to fly to Japan for the Ultimate World Challenge Cup held in October.
Unfortunately the new Nintendo Switch Lite has not been mentioned, but we hope that Nintendo has some surprises up its sleeve.
Nvidia will be at Gamescom 2019, but it is unlikely that it will have new graphics cards to show off, much less an entire generation as the year did past. However, Nvidia is doing everything possible to show the ray tracing by announcing a range of games that will now feature technology.
These include Synched: Off-Planet that will use reflections and shadows with ray tracing, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remake, which comes with ray-traced shadows and new downloadable content for Metro Exodus called The Two Colonels.
The next Watch Dogs: Legion will also get reflections traced by lightning, and Dying Light 2 real-time ray tracing.
However, perhaps the greatest news is that Minecraft will get ray tracing support in a free update. One of the most popular games in the world that gets ray tracing is a great victory for budding technology, which can dramatically improve the quality of shadows, lighting and other graphic effects.
We've also seen some rumors of a possible RTX 2080 Ti Super, but we suggest you don't get excited . However, if you recently dropped batteries on an expensive Nvidia Turing graphics card, Nvidia has many new games to show you take advantage of those RT and Tensor cores.
While we know that Intel is going to be at Gamescom this year, we really don't know what it will have to offer. If we were to risk an (optimistic) assumption, Intel would take this game event to show its response to AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation. But, we would not have illusions.
What we could see happening is that Intel takes its recent announcement of the Ice Lake processors and the Gen11 graphics that are packaged, and lets players know what it means to them. And we could even get some updates on Intel Xe graphics cards: Gamescom seems to be the perfect place for that.
Still, we don't really know what Intel has up its sleeve, so we'll have to wait and see.
Dell and Alienware at Gamescom
Dell and Alienware will also be present in the European gaming program, and although we're not sure what to expect, You can bet they will have an elegant gaming hardware to show off. If it's the latest in accessories, a new Alienware desktop PC or something that nobody sees coming, we don't know what we are in.
