Energizer’s 18,000mAh phone-battery monster is an Indiegogo flop

Energizer's name was prominently featured at this year's Mobile World Congress, courtesy of a prototype Android smartphone with a thickness of about an inch, consisting mainly of a giant battery. The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop of 18,000 mAh was an advance of something that Avenir Telecom, the company that grants the license of the name of the brand of battery to use in telephones, wanted to mass produce and bring to the market this summer. After that successful debut at the CMM, the P18K Pop was presented at Indiegogo with an anticipated price of $ 549, a delivery deadline promised in October 2019 and an optimistic goal of $ 1.2 million in total funds.

Today, the Indiegogo campaign of Avenir for the battery-with-a-phone-in-it Energizer concluded with a groan, having accumulated just $ 15,005 in promised support. Given that the campaign did not reach 99 percent of reaching its original objective, and all the financing was conditioned to be fully financed, the entire exercise seems to have been in vain. On the other hand, given the number of companies that use collective financing platforms mainly as marketing levers, it can be argued that Avenir Telecom may never really believe that it could go beyond the prototype stage with its P18K Pop.

The calculation for the company can be read simply as "we do something to get people's attention, launch it to Indiegogo with an unlikely funding objective, and just in case people go crazy over it, we should build anything. "People found that the Energizer brand phone battery hybrid was fun and exciting, but when the time came to invest money to turn it into a real product, the enthusiasm was clearly much less abundant.

Ah Well, at least now we know that there are limits to our desires for increasingly larger batteries.
