The best answer: The answer is complicated. Any Surface Laptop 3 that has an Intel processor is compatible with Wi-Fi 6. The 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 powered by AMD is not compatible with Wi-Fi 6.
What is Wi-Fi 6?
Wi-Fi 6 is the latest Wi-Fi standard, and has several advantages over the previous ones. Wi-Fi 6 handles multiple simultaneous connections up to four times better than the previous Wi-Fi standard. It also increases the speed and stability of the Internet with respect to previous standards. That means you can have more devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network without reducing speeds.
In addition, Wi-Fi 6 reduces the voltage on the battery life of your device when it is connected to a network. In summary, Wi-Fi 6 helps make your Internet connection faster and more stable, with less battery consumption.
How do I use Wi-Fi 6 on my Surface Laptop 3?
To use Wi-Fi 6, you will need a device that supports it, such as a phone, tablet or PC. You will also need a router that supports Wi-Fi 6.
Every Surface Laptop 3 that runs on an Intel chip is compatible with Wi-Fi 6. That includes the 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 3 and the 13.5-inch and 15-inch versions Surface Laptop 3. The 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 with AMD technology is not compatible with Wi-Fi 6.
On the router side, you have several options, but we recommend the ASUS RT-AX88U. It has fantastic speeds and bandwidth management, although it is expensive. Routers that support Wi-Fi 6 are relatively new, so finding a good one can cost you more than you expect. As they become more common, prices will fall and there will be cheaper options available.
