As Windows 10 Mobile will finally reach the end of support in December, a technology enthusiast has imagined what a new "modern OS" from Microsoft would look like in a new flagship phone inspired by the popular Lumia 1020. Aspiring experience designer Jacob Estep has creator versions of a "Lumia X" smartphone with a borderless design similar to other flagship smartphones of 2019, and the designer imagined a lower navigation bar that merged with the top status bar.

A new Start menu would be displayed by swiping up in the bottom navigation bar, showing and thinking designed about other gestures to show a multitasking UI, as well as a timeline.

Another interesting concept is a new Activity Center displaying notifications and quick actions, and this feature would also appreciate customizable widgets that provide quick access to applications and more. The influences of fluid design are quite visible in general, and the designer made sure to also create some renderings in dark mode.

It remains to be seen if Microsoft will launch a new handheld device, but several patents published over the years showed that Microsoft was more interested in dual-screen devices, moving away from the form factor Traditional smartphone. Still, we know there are still many Lumia 950 and 950XL fans, and the Lumia borderless flagship with a renewed mobile operating system would certainly have been good. Anyway, if you like these conceptual images, you can see other Jacob design projects in his online portfolio.
