Chromecasts now support multi-room music playback

You can now use Chromecast to sync music from multiple rooms and devices. Engadget announces the addition of Chromecast to a group of speakers through an update that is available today, making it a convenient feature for users who want to combine multiple Google Cast-compatible devices for simultaneous audio streaming. We previously excluded standard Chromecasts because the speaker group could only be created on audio devices.

Google announced support for the group of speakers back to Chromecast in October, so it was time to roll out. This feature currently appears to be available to users who have signed up for Google's preview program and are working on Chromecast of all generations. The XDA developer reported that people who did not see the option could reboot the device multiple times to create pop-ups. When casting to a speaker group, Chromecast will display song information above the background picture in the lower left corner of the screen.

To add Chromecast to your speaker group, this is a great update, which means that the preview app in the Google Home app will have multi-room audio capabilities for many of your Chromecast's Settings menu.
