Borderlands 3 sells 5 million copies in its first 5 days

It seems that Borderlands 3 is already emerging as a massive success, since it has already sold 5 million copies in its five days of existence in the various digital windows. That's roughly double the amount that Borderlands 2 generated at the same time according to Eurogamer, which puts the new game in first place among the fastest growing titles published by 2K Games. According to 2K President David Ismailer:

"We are immensely grateful to everyone who played a role in making the Borderlands series the global phenomenon of pop culture that is today, including hundreds of Gearbox developers and many who have done this the work of their lives. We also want to thank the Borderlands community. Mayhem does not happen by itself, and his passion for the series is what drives us to make each game an incredible experience. "

These important numbers are especially interesting since Epic has chosen to make the title an exclusive Epic games store for those on PC. Even in spite of that, the peak counting of concurrent Borderlands 3 players was approximately "twice as high" as that of its predecessor, according to the CEO of Gearbox Software, the game development company.

Another interesting note is that while 2K has chosen to keep Borderlands 3 of the online digital stores on the PC, Microsoft has chosen to bring its new game Gears 5 for both Microsoft Store and Steam. Of course, much of the success of that game is probably because it is available to Xbox Game Pass users for free since its launch.

In any case, we still have to see how long-term sales work. But given how popular the Borderlands franchise has always been, it seems that it is reaching commercial success.

Were you among the nearly five million people who bought the game? What do you think about the game so far? Your thoughts are welcome below.
