Bill Gates says breaking up tech giants “doesn’t seem like a solution,” regulate them instead

Bill Gates says that dividing the tech giants

Microsoft founder and former CEO Bill Gates has spoken against dividing the big tech companies, saying he doesn't think he will resolve the anti-competitive behavior. In an interview with Bloomberg, Gates explained that the two companies would potentially continue to enjoy bad behavior, and cited that regulation is key. According to Gates:

"I don't know the last time a company broke up … but you have really thought: & # 39; Is that the best if there is a form of behavior you want to get rid of?" Then you should say : & # 39; Hey, it's fine, it's forbidden behavior & # 39 ;. Divide a company in two and make two people do the wrong thing, you know that that doesn't seem to be a solution. "

Gates, who founded Microsoft in 1975, is no stranger to antitrust battles and said:" I was naive about this , but that was a long time ago and I didn't realize that as Microsoft succeeds, we would be under scrutiny and we went through ours in the 1990s and that has made us more thoughtful about this type of activity. ”

Gates' statements occur when other tech giants, such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google, face antitrust investigations on their own. Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has also talked about the breakdown of tech giants, saying she believes "big tech companies have too much power."

According to Gates, it should be up to consumers to advocate for changes and for governments to introduce and enforce them, saying, "I think the government really needs to talk about what those rules should be. You could say that I am partial, but the I see it as very innovative and well-intentioned companies. It is up to society to ensure that its innovation has no negative side effects. "

What do you think of Gates' ideas about the breakdown of technology companies? Do you think that separating them would increase competition or decrease innovation? Let us know what you think in the comments area below.
