AT&T hopes to offer live sports and news through HBO Max streaming service

AT & T will ultimately include live TV elements for upcoming streaming service HBO Max. AT & T CEO Randall Stephenson said he plans to offer live sports services such as the NBA, MLB, and soccer games in conversations with investors and will include news elements. Stephenson said the company plans to release HBO Max in an investor presentation on Oct. 29, prior to its scheduled launch in 2020.

AT & T puts many hope back on HBO Max. Loss of subscribers to existing streaming services, now DirecTV. In the quarter, the service further reduced its subscribers by 168,000. This is the net loss of 267,000 subscribers lost in the first quarter of 2019. The company warned that it would continue to lose money by phasing out existing promotional services.

AT & T is not the only company suffering from a loss of subscribers. Earlier this month Netflix announced the first major loss of US subscribers. This is also the result of the customer's price increase. However, while Netflix is ‚Äč‚Äčlosing major shows in its catalog (as a result of AT & T speculation), AT & T does not have the same reliance on third party content.

In addition to the new streaming service, Stephenson plans to release a new "thin client product" called AT & T TV and is planning a trial in the third quarter of this year. While it is unclear what the service will be at the moment, Stevenson points out that it is likely to be offered at a low price to the company's current DirecTV service.
