As of today, Amazon Prime members in the United States can receive their packages directly in their garages. Key for Garage, which Amazon announced for the first time in January, is an expansion of the company's existing Amazon Key service, which already allows Amazon drivers to deliver packages directly to their home or in the trunk of their car. It's a compromise between the invasion of letting a driver into your home and the risk of leaving a package vulnerable to the elements, not to mention the pirates who pass through the porch.
To use the new service, you will need a garage door opener compatible with Chamberlain myQ or LiftMaster. Amazon has a search tool available on its site so you can verify if your existing garage door is compatible. If you do not, then Amazon will sell you a myQ Smart Garage Hub to upgrade your existing garage door opener for an introductory price of $ 50 (regular price of $ 80). Along with the hardware, you will also need a subscription to Amazon Prime to use the service.
Once the subscription and hardware are in place, you can select "Garage delivery" in the box for the driver to leave his package in his garage. You can remotely control access to your garage with the Key by Amazon application or control the space with an Amazon Cloud Cam, which is available as a package with Smart Garage Hub for a launch price of $ 125 (regular price of $ 200 ).
As of today, Key by Amazon now covers a total of 50 cities in the United States, thanks to 13 new additions that include Las Vegas, Fresno and Rochester. Key for Garage is available in all cities where Key by Amazon is available.
